Baby oil has its uses. It also removes fingerprints from stainless steel and (this may have a yuk factor) if you have blocked pores then put baby oil on first, leave for a couple of minutes and then wash your face normally. It is just that old oil oxidises and forms something not dissimilar from a hardened resin. Luckily it dissolves in new oil.
The baby oil method of cleaning diamonds has the advantage of you don’t damage the setting by repeated use of a toothbrush.
I still get my diamond cleaned professionally occasionally and its the best way, but the baby oil method works well.
The other thing I do is use shower oil rather than shower gel or soap (to wash myself in the shower). I tend to wear my ring all the time and I find that if I use shower oil in the shower, even though I’m not actively cleaning the ring with it, it slows down the build-up of ring gunk.
