Hi, beautiful Bees! This is my first post (although I’ve been an avid Bee stalker for a while). So many of you helped me make my [final] engagement ring decision, so I thought I would try and help in return! Long story short– my original engagement ring was a cushion cut. We recently exchanged it for an oval, and I couldn’t be happier! Both rings were purchased from James Allen. I can’t recommend them enough! JA’s customer service is amazing. My first ring, a 1.01 cushion cut, ended up having fluorescence…YELLOW fluorescence! Eeek. I got the ring in June and didn’t notice the fluorescence until I went back to work in August (I’m a teacher). The fluorescent lights made that beauty light up yellow. The yellow fluor was confirmed by a local jeweler who said it is very rare. In fact, he had never seen it. Although beautiful in sunlight, the yellow drove me crazy at work, in the mall, etc. We exchanged it for a 1.01 oval…and I’m in love! I did a ton of research before the exchange. I love cushions, but I’m so happy with my oval. Anyway, I hope this helps someone as much as all of your posts helped me! If you have any comparison pics of rings with different shapes/carat weights, please post! I apologize in advance for my red, over-washed teacher hands!!
Side note– both rings are set in the same JA halo setting. My ring size is 3.5
Cushion- 1.01carat H-VS1, faint fluorescence (“Yellow” was NOT listed on the GIA certificate, just “faint”). Dimensions- 5.98 x 5.35 x 3.74 (within ideal/recommended proportions)
Oval- 1.01 carat D-VS1, no fluorescence. Dimensions- 8.02 x 5.82 x 3.52 (ideal oval proportions, minimal bowtie)
It’s so true- ovals face up much larger than cushions! Plus, the oval sparkles much more!
