This is my first post… I had to find out if this has happened to anyone else. I have a white gold engagement ring and I’ve had it for a little over a year now. This morning I noticed that there was a crack almost all the way through the band on the bottom. It doesn’t look like it’s where the ring was sized. And I don’t do anything where I’m hitting my hand at that spot. Has this happened to anyone else? I’m trying to figure out if it’s normal wear and tear.

It doesn’t matter what caused it, you need to ge it to a jeweler. Don’t wear it until it’s fixed, because you don’t want to lose a stone out of it. This happened to me but it was only a small crack. I was stupidly wearing my antique ring to the gym. Duh! I got a small crack and lost a small diamond. The jeweler fixed it for $65.
I wouldn’t wear your ring to the gym or to a job where you are doing a lot of physical work, even after its fixed.

Mine (also white gold) cracked in a couple of places. They noticed it when I took it in to have my wedding band soldered to it.
My jeweler called it ‘stress fractures’ but said he’d never seen anything like it before. I too have had my ring resized, and these cracks didn’t look related to that (but it could be somehow related). Anyway, the jeweler called the designer (Levy Creations) who had also never heard of this happening. We elected to send the set back to the designer so that they could see the damage and repair the issue (possibly by re-casting the entire set). This was a little over 2 weeks ago. I’m anxiously waiting to get my bling back, hopefully all in one piece.
As arizonabride said, get to the jeweler immediately.

🙁 that stinks! But definintely get it fixed ASAP! If you let it go, the problem could get worse!

thanks for the advice – I took the ring off and had Fiance call the jeweler. Looks like my finger is going to be naked for a while 🙁

I haven’t had that happen, but I’m glad you brought this up & that azbride told us about her experience. I’m the type of person that would just ignore it & keep wearing it until it shattered… eek. I’m gonna keep an eye out for this 🙂
Glad you’re getting it fixed & that it wasn’t anything worse!!

Happened to me, too – but my ring was a bit too big, and I was planning on moving it to a different finer post-wedding, so I didn’t have it sized – I wore it with a sizer. Because of that, the back of the ring never touched my finger, and I didn’t notice until I took my ring off to show someone, and it was completely broken. It was a white gold band.
We weren’t in love with the band and the setting, so I had the stone taken out and reset in a new setting / band, which I am much happier with than the original ring. But you should take it in ASAP!
