To me this looks like the kind of ring that always looks way better in the stock photo than in person.  It would not be worth the risk to me.

@kZs:  I really REALLY think you need to see rings in person to know what you want.  Also, if your boyfriend buys this ring but then doesn’t propose for a while, I imagine you wouldn’t be able to return the ring and you’d be stuck with it in the event that you didn’t love it.  If you like that style of ring, then I say go with a locally trusted jeweler who can make you a custom ring when the time comes around for you and your man to get engaged.

I agree with PPs.  I thought I wanted one style and I ended up falling in love with something different.  You say you used to work in a jewelry store, did you have the opportunity to try a lot of different styles on?  Have you ever tried on something similar to this?  If the answer is yes to those two questions, then I would be less hesistant.  But I would say wait for him to be ready to buy the ring.  And, in the meantime, try to stop looking!  It’ll drive you crazy!

We bought my ring together 9 months before we got engaged and ended up changing it after he proposed.  Your taste may change and that’s a significant amount of money to lay out now instead of holding on to it for a year or two without it being tied up in something like a ring.  Also, your SO should insure it which is an additional expense.  I would highly recommend you wait – if the ring is “the one” something similar will come along – maybe even a better deal!

I think you should let him have a hand at picking it out for you. It’s only my personal opinion, but there is something gratifying about letting him pick it out all by himself! However, since you do have experience in jewelery stores, and know what you want, maybe just lightly let him know (aka leave it up on a website under favorites, or have him catch you looking at it saying oh no! this is on clearance and it’s the ring of my dreams!)…and who knows maybe he will find something or get something custom made that is in this style. I was reading a thread on here yesterday about bees who wanted one thing, got something else and ended up loving it! So, don’t get stuck on this style, because who knows what else will be out there in the next 1-2 years! Good Luck!! : )

If you’ve loved it for years, then I do not think that your tastes will change… I ordered my wedding band online and it looked just as good in person as it did in the stock photo. Some people who say not to order a ring from the internet are the ones who have not done so. If you love it and it is reasonable, I’d purchase. I’m more afraid that you’ll regret not having the ring you’ve stalked for years than I am that you’ll end up wanting a different one. Hope this helps!

@kZs:  I agree with the PPs.  There were rings that I thought looked gorgeous online but when I saw them in person, well eh, not so much.  So I highly recommend trying them on in person.  Last thing you want is to have your SO spend a lot of money for something you regretted asking for.  It’s a risk I’m not willing to take.

Okay, just throwing this out there in case it’s from somewhere else…they have that ring on Overstock.com in several carat sizes for really good prices.  I have looked at that ring so many times because it’s a Tiffany look-alike and I love it!!!

If this is what you love – bring it up to him!  At the very least he’ll know what you like.

And, if it doesn’t work out with this ring, at least there are similar options out there, like these:

http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-moissanite-engagement-ring-p-9184.html

http://www.moissaniteco.com/semibezel-modern-round-moissanite-engagement-ring-p-8618.html

http://www.moissaniteco.com/round-moissanite-pave-engagement-ring-p-10666.html

They’re sold by moissaniteco, but for some of these I’m sure you could buy just the setting.
