Are you able to return for full price with no hassles? Did he pick this ring for you? Do you think he’d be offended? If you can return it and he won’t be offended, id go for round solitaire, but I’m a bit biased. Lol. I like dainty halos too but it’s so rare to get them right. This is your ring you are going to wear so you should be happy. If it’s too hard to return or he will get offended, it’s a very pretty ring and fixing the prongs should be easy enough!

artoat317 :  Honestly, I think you ring is stunning as is – however I will agree that the prongs are a little large for my taste; a jeweler could probably help you figure out how to change that.

I LOVE your ring the only one minor thing that I would change to make it more about the center and less about the prongs is change the prongs. I think a thinner claw prong would be beautiful..the current prongs are just too thick

Your ring is gorgeous! I think prongs are generally sized for the stone and since yours is quite large there may be a reason they made the prongs larger. I do think they’re contributing to making your stone look very square though. Have you considered rotating your stone so that it is “kite set”? That might make the shape more round in appearance. You could also try switching to a double claw prong or a 6 prong setting with smaller prongs.

I also think cushions are gorgeous with a halo, but love the simpler design you have going now so you can’t go wrong either way.

I wouldn’t change to round or halo, but I love cushions and solitaires. The prongs look a bit asymmetrical and large to me, I think it would be perfect with daintier prongs!

This is just my personal preference, not to insult anyone else’s choices. We’re all different 🙂 Your cushion is beautiful!!

My opinion is that if you’re going to have a pave band, you may as well halo. I don’t prefer the look of a pave band without a halo.

If you’re not going to halo, I’d stick with a full on classic solitaire setting in whatever metal you like, with delicate claw prongs holding your cushion. Leon isn’t the only designer that does declicate claw prongs, either, FYI.

artoat317 :  Maybe to increase the amount of prongs but reduce the size of them.  I really love halos and definitely would want to add a halo on it.  But that’s me.

artoat317 :  The prongs are too bulky and don’t match each other. Prongs can be a tricky thing to do right and not all jewelers know how to make them aesthetically pleasing while still being strong and secure. I would ask to have them re-shaped. I wouldn’t do a whole new ring because the style and stone are gorgeous!

Your ring is stunning and similar to mine, except that I have a pear. If I were doing it all over again I would lean towards a cushion so I am voting not to change it. I absolutely adore a cushion on a pave band! But those prongs do need changing – i think it would look amazing with double claw prongs as above. Or even single. But those prongs are a bit bulky. Drool I love your ring. It caught my eye the other day when you posted it on another thread. swoon.

artoat317 :  I can’t believe I missed this thread before. I love solitaire cushions! I have one with a very thin channel band.

The new prongs make a huge difference! I hope you like your ring more now!

Oh man…your ring was and is gorgeous. I don’t think a halo is needed just in case that thought is still lingering! Cushion cut is my favorite!!
