I don’t think you are being a brat at all! I also don’t understand why he is so adamant when you said that isn’t your preference…since he is a jeweler maybe you can do some research and speak in his terms explain what you like about other cuts, the fire, sparkle, etc., and maybe he’ll understant exactly what you like and don’t like.

You are not being a brat at all, I am surprised he would want to get you a stone that you don’t like, given that you will wear it everyday.  Furthermore, I know this is a gift, but aren’t most rings bought by the man and by default a gift?  I think you need to stress to him how much this means to you but have compromises on how you can incorporate emeralds into the rings.

I also don’t think you’re being a brat. I find it surprising that he would want to give you a ring that you don’t like. The minute my husband found out that I didn’t like a certain stone or setting, he stayed far away from it. Maybe using the bargaining chip of you won’t be wearing it much since you don’t like the stone may change his mind?

I agree with @CityGirl maybe you can talk him to an Asscher. Maybe he’ll go for it since it is a square emerald. I have one and I love it, from afar it looks like a princess and you mentioned you liked princess cuts so maybe this could be a compromise for both of you?

Good Luck!

What about a center cut of what you want, and side cuts of emeralds? I think they’d look great set east to west.

Asscher’s a great idea, too! if you like them.

Do you mean yellow gold or yellow diamonds?

Have you looked on jareds website they have a lot of unusual settings. Thats where i got mine and I have never seen anyone else with it and no one that has seen my ring knows anyone with a setting like it.

Since he is making it himself if you find a setting that was prong set you like couldnt he just change it to pave when he makes it.

One word of warning just in case you find something you love at Jared’s.  We got my ring from there.  It is the most wonderful amazing ring EVER!  I love everything about it.  At least once a week someone tells me how unique and beautiful it is.  They have a HUGE selection of settings which is nice.  If we could do it over we would probably buy my setting from them but buy and have the diamond set else where.  There are lots of horror stories out there about Jarod’s.  Since we got my ring the customer service hase been HORRIFYING!!  Just thought I should warn you!  Good luck with your hunt!

@mkat88: We bought a diamond somewhere else and saved over 2k for the same diamond! The place where we got the diamond even covered my jared setting under their companys policy!
