Ring doesn’t fit after pregnancy

A lot depends on what kind.of ring you have. A pave shank ring doesn’t do.well being resized, a plain shank is fine. Is your weight back to what it was prior to pregnancy? Because pregnancy itself should not cause finger swelling 1 year postpartum. Weight gain is what does that, or arthritis swelling the joints.

My friends finger swelled with pregnancy and then never really went back. I think she finally had it resized when her son was school age!

my ring had always been a bit tight in the summer from the heat but it got worse after my first pregnancy 6 years ago. I finally had it resized last year after our second was a year old as I wanted to be able to wear it all year round. mine was cut and then a piece added and replated.

@mrssouthernfairytale:  The pave on top might be a problem. Resizing will alter the shape of the small prongs that hold the pave in place. How much do you need it sized up?

I’d probably give it a little more time. Are you still breastfeeding? That can also impact things.

I think it took like 10 months for my wedding rings to fit comfortably again after I had my first baby, which I see you’re a little further out than that but I think it’s still possible you could go back to your original size. Also, are you planning to have more babies? If it’s going to be complicated to resize the ring I’d be inclined to hold off until you’re done. Maybe treat yourself to a standin ring in the meantime?

I’d wait if you know you’re going to be ttc later. My ring size went up from US size 6 (US) to 7 with my first and then to7 1/2 after my second. I held on to a lot of weight though.

@mrssouthernfairytale:  I found that nursing definitely affected my body size/shape. I noticed that, while I’d lost all the baby weight by about 9m pp, my body didn’t fully return to its pre-pregnancy shape/size until my baby was maybe 14 months old or so and eating mostly solids. At that point, I had a big supply drop and I feel like there was a hormonal shift too that helped things “normalize” a little more.

If you’re planning on more kids and don’t want to have to resize multiple times, I’d just wait.  After my first, I could wear my rings again after like 6 months.  I’m 2 month pp now with my second and they’re still a bit tight, I can get them on, but it’d be hard to get off.  In the mean time, I had got some fun gemstones right hand rings a quarter size bigger to wear on my left until my set fits or until I decide it’s time to resize.
