I tried to get FI’s ring engraved at the place where I purchased it (Helzberg). They send it off to a local guy to engrave. We didn’t get to see a proof of what it would look like, we just asked for “script” instead of numbers. It should say, “June 25, 2011”. When it came back the word “June” was TINY. Like itty bitty letters and GIANT numbers. He says he can’t re-do it, and it looks stupid. Also, he left the comma out. I’m already skeptical of his work, because when they resized my e-ring, it came back all mis-shapen.
I guess we’re going to have to take it somewhere else. Do we have to pay for the botched engraving? It was about $30 bucks.

oh what a pain, i’m so sorry about that. i can’t believe he did that–i mean, even if he didn’t plan it out beforehand (which he obviously didn’t), couldn’t he tell while he was doing it that it didn’t look good?
i think you should take up the issue with a manager, either in person or in a letter, and calmly explain how bad it is and make sure they see the ring or a picture. they may offer a refund and i think you deserve one, although of course my feelings are no guarantee on the issue!

Thanks for the encouragement, Mrs. Pug! Sometimes I feel like I’m being pretty anal retentive about details, but this stuff is important! Interesting tidbit, we may be able to fix the font size issue, but I’ve called a ton of jewelers and NO ONE has a comma on their machine. Weird, no? My first grade teacher would be appalled 😉
