I am a longtime lurker and love the helpful advice I see on these boards! I have been googling like crazy and need some help so I thought I’d post here and see if anyone had any input.
My bf and I have been looking at rings – I love looking online ,but after visiting a jewelry stores I’ve realized there are a lot of gorgeous rings out there, but they don’t all look right on me. I’m drawn to round stones, especially halos, and this ring was perfect:
What do I like about it? The halo seems to “blend” with the center stone. (Does that make sense? I like the setting, how it’s not very high above my finger. The matching wedding band fits snug against the engagement ring. I love how sparkly and thin the band is, and how it goes all the way around.
Other halos I looked at were too big for me – this was dainty and delicate. I don’t wear a lot of jewelry, so some of the more elaborate halos wouldn’t work with me. (Much to my dismay – a good friend has a gorgeous elaborate halo and I was really hoping I’d be able to pull off something similar!)
Anyway, I was hoping that the jewelry store we visited would use Canadian diamonds – but they don’t. I understand the Kimberley Process, but I still prefer that we use Canadian diamonds. It seems like the only retailer I can find (with a good selection to peruse) is Brilliant Earth. Granted, they are gorgeous rings. But it’s hard to decide if what I see online would work for me! This one seems the best:

Uh oh, somehow I posted without finishing. Anyway, do you think the one on brilliant earth is similar to the simon g one? Here’s another pic:
Are there other retailers that offer Canadian diamonds as standard?
Am i just driving myself crazy, and should I just let Boyfriend or Best Friend pick something out along those types of looks? (I should have said before, he doesn’t want to pick out a ‘surprise’, wants us to agree on a style of ring, and he prefers the ‘delicate’ look to the more intricate look as well . . . )
Any suggestions for me are appreciated! Thanks so much!

Mine is very similar to your first picture but cusion cut …its .91 ct in the center and 1.5 total. Mine DEF blends but i love it…it makes it look bigger than it is 🙂 and its soooo shiney! the band is very thin which is great because i have pretty small hands. i have not seen a ring yet that i like better than mine..though i have seen some really beautiful rings. i dont t hink you will be sorry with the blended halo setting.

I had shown Fiance a picture of the rings i liked and he eventually picked it out by himself and picked EXACTLY what i would have picked for myself. I would just say go with the one you love, you will wear it forever remember..Good Luck

I think you should show him the pics and let him pick out the ring, and let him know about your concern regarding Kimberly Diamonds! Sounds like you’re on the same page and he’ll do right by you. My ring is virtually identical except that it is set high on prongs – I love the dainty band. It’s less overwhelming on my tiny hands, and it makes the stone look bigger!

FYI at brilliant earth, you have 30 days to return rings 🙂 We got my canadian diamond at ben bridge..do you have one of them near you?
I just ordered a wedding band from them and they’ve been wonderful.
You could also just order a canadian diamond from bluenile or brilliant earth and have it set in that setting.

Why don’t you look at buying the Canadian diamond from somewhere else but buying the setting that you already tried on and loved. Just because they don’t come from the same place doesn’t mean that the diamond can’t be placed in the setting!

Thanks ladies for all of the helpful input – and noodlesploosh, what a gorgeous ring! I am going to take a deep breath, relax, and let Boyfriend or Best Friend figure out the best course of action – i think I’ve given plenty of input (and he’s more into the canadian diamonds than i am anyway, so I know that’s going to happen.) We are going to look at one more store this weekend near us that has canadian diamonds, but I think if we don’t find anything he’ll likely go with brilliant earth. FutureKMM, your idea is a good one, i will maybe metion that to Boyfriend or Best Friend too 🙂
