    It’s on our homeowners policy. I don’t know much about the policies through the jewlery store but would make sure you were protected if the store went out of business.

    Mine is a suppliment to my homeowners policy. To the best of my knowledge, no coverage was offered by our jeweler.

    We have an independent policy for my engagement ring, so I didn’t vote. I wouldn’t put it on as a rider for our home owners, there was a clause in ours that it would only be covered if it was stolen from our house.

    I just got mine insured the other day and it is on our home insurance but a seperate rider.

    My rings are covered for anything…theft, fire, flood, in a drain, being carried away by a bird, losing it in the sand, losing it in Mexico swimming, eaten by a sea turtle while snorkeling, granddaughter throwin it down the toilet, dog eating it, dementia and forgetting where you put it and never finding it again!!!!

    The reason I mentioned those is because I asked about them because the insurance is costing me 30 bucks more a month and I wanted to be sure they covered everything… I would make sure that you do the same with your insurance comp just to make sure it is covered for EVERYTHING

    We opened a personal articles policy for my rings (our insurer doesn’t do riders to homeowners’ for jewelry, etc). Our jewelry maintenance plan does not cover loss, theft, all types of damage, etc. Only security of diamonds and certain repairs.

    It’s such a small amount that I consider it 100% worth it.

    You should definitely have it insured under your homeowners insurance – usually the store policy just covers damage repair rather than loss.  When adding a rider to your insurance policy (which is pretty cheap), make sure to ask a lot of questions and think through how you want your ring to be insured… you usually have a choice between a policy that covers replacement versus a policy that will give you cash value.

    I didn’t vote because my engagement ring is insured through an independent jewelery insurance company.  It covers everything from theft, loss of stones, damage of any kind to even “mysterious disappearance”. I also did not want a deductible so we pay the entire premium. It was absolutely necessary and definately is a solid peace of mind for something so valuable.

    Jeweler’s Mutual, an in dependent jewelery insurance company, so I didn’t vote. They have a great reputation in the industry.

    @septcabride:  This!

    I have both, the jewelry store only covered damage/lost stones.  If my entire ring was stolen or lost, it wouldn’t be covered.  So we added an insurance policy through our (renter’s) insurance plan that covers the ring for life.

    There are way too many stories on these boards alone that talk about lost/stolen rings that NOT getting insurance would just be naive.

    I did not vote because we have an independent policy through a reputable jewelry insurance company.

    Jeweler’s Mutual here, too. Not a poll option.

    Fi added it to our homeowner’s policy within a couple of hours of bringing it home.  He’s what I like to call “cautious”
