I have had my ring for half a month now and still do not have it insured. I purchased it from James Allen which is a USA based company and I live in Calgary Alberta Canada. I was wondering what my best bet would be for insurance and which company to use? Canadian brides whom have you used?
Thank You in advance.

I also purchased my ring from the US, and was living in Canada at the time. I insured it through Jewelers Mutual/Perfect Circle. I moved to the US after getting married and kept the same policy with them, but now pay in USD.

I also used Jewelers Mutual/Perfect Circle. It was way less than doing it through my home insurance. My advice would be to have it appraised in Canada so that your appraisal is in Canadian dollars.

I live in Calgary too 🙂
My ring is insured under our homeowners insurance. Can you do something like that? They will appraise it when you get it all set up.

Check out rates for both home owners insurance AND 3rd party (jewellers mutual).
I have mine on my home owners as a separate rider.

My ring is also insured under our homeowners insurance (part of contents insurance). I had to provide the receipt and appraisal and they bumped up the limit on our jewellry coverage accordingly.

manni : I have Jewelers Mutual and it is affordable without a doubt. I have seen some threads on here that vouch for JM having a great reputation.

I am in Alberta. All my rings have come from the US. I use Jeweler’s Mutual. It had far better coverage than any homeowners I looked at (including covering mysterious loss, preventative repairs, and so on), very good rates, and a claim does not risk premiums going up or losing your home insurance either. I pay just over $1.00 CDN annually for every $100 CDN in coverage.
You just need to make sure to get an appraisal in Canadian dollars as that is their policy these days (ask for a REALISTIC REPLACEMENT VALUE appraisal). Don’t pay extra for premiums than you need to. Insurance does not give you free money, and JM does a repair and replace with similar and like quality. Just because your ring was overappraised for double the value does not mean you get double payout if you lost it, or get to get a ring worth double! It just does not work that way.
I have made a claim through JM before and it was a positive experience, aside from having to make a claim in first place.
