I actually didn’t want an engagement ring in the first place, but I’d suggest going with something unconventional.  My ring is a colored stone and was not very expensive – I’ve seen other bees with colored stone rings that were very reasonable and gorgeous.  It’s unconventional, but it’s still the focal point people are looking for.

This was actually an issue for since we’re students.  We’re going to forego an engagement ring, I mean technically I’m wearing a CZ but when we get married, I’ll only wear the wedding band.

I didn’t have to compromise. I chose moissanite for a few reasons, one of them being that it was less expensive than a diamond, but I didn’t choose it only for that reason so that my SO could propose. I definitely don’t feel like I have missed out on anything by not getting a diamond. I’m getting my dream engagement ring, and he could afford it easily.

For me personally, having an engagement ring was important. In my family/circle of friends, you’re not really engaged until the rings on your finger (I know this isn’t the same for everyone and thats totally fine). If I had been waiting for a long time and my options were between waiting even longer or getting a more affordable ring, I would go with the more affordable ring. You can always upgrade in the future.

ETA: Apparently I overshot the “other” option which I would have voted for. Fiance and I both paid for my ring. We’ve had joint finances for years so us both paying for it just made sense.

We’ve decided that moissanite is our route.  It’s as great as a diamond without the inflation in price.  🙂  So, we both win!

I vote other. I would rather contribute to the ring fund myself to cut down on the “waiting” time. Considering once we get married, all our assets will be pooled, I think this is a good alternative.

Ooops…I voted for waiting but I would actually choose “other” now that I read everything!  I would actually like to either help pay for it or pay for it and have him pay me back.

I voted “Other”. I would definitely be on board with chipping in for my dream ring! Of course this is hypothetical though, because in the real world SO has already said that he is very traditional about this and will be doing it “right the first time” (when I mentioned upgrading later on as an option), so I can’t imagine he’d be too thrilled if I attempted to help pay for the ring. 🙁
