mimi889 :  I have no idea- maybe other bees are more knowledgeable about prongs, and can weigh in here.

But the prongs of my engagement ring don’t come so far over the top of the stone, and are rounded, not pointed- and I’ve had no problem with them catching on things .

6 would be beautiful!

Edited to add: maybe I’m not seeing the photo clearly? The prongs look pointed to me, but when I zoom in the photo, now I’m not sure 😛

mimi889 :  oooh I see. I’m not a fan of the claw shape, or how many there are. I much prefer a standard prong.

mimi889 :  Hi bee! Lovely stone and the “closed prongs” are claw prongs, and if they’re done correctly they shouldn’t catch on anything. I have claw prongs and love them. I just have 4 prongs, not six. I think double claw prongs could look really nice! The ballerina setting from Schubach’s comes to mind. Maybe @desertgypsy can post her beauty!

DrAtkins :  This is true; well done claw prongs never snag on hair or clothes or anything else. I have double claw prongs on my solitaire and they’re fine.
