Thats farrrr too high.  It should be $30 or so.  Sizing isnt rocket science.

I got it done at a mall chain store on other rings for that $30 ish, but once I went to a local jeweler and they quoted me $150. My sis paid $90 at a local place. However I must say, the two popular chains stores did a horrible job. I have had sizings at were done terribly, very sloppily and you could see where the ring was cut, and it was sooo thin at the back. You get what you paid for, in some cases.

p.s. The local one I went to that quoted $150, I talked them down to about $95, so you could try that if you’re comfortable.

It was free to get my ring re-sized and spacer balls placed at the jeweler he bought the ring from.

The place he bought the ring from *should* offer free sizing, especially if it’s only a half a size!!  Kays / Belden’s / etc. generally charge $20/size if it’s not something they’ve warranteed.  I’ve had a whole bunch of rings done there, and they’ve all been fine.  The only thing is they have to send it to their jeweler, they don’t have the equipment on site, and it usually takes 1-2 weeks depending on the season.

We paid a little extra for me to have lifetime free re-sizing from the store where we bought the ring (it’s a chain) – I have health issues and take Prednisone (a steroid) at least once a year. My weight can fluctuate due to the Prednisone, and one year I gained over 70 lb. I have recently lost some weight, so we figured it’d be worth it. The store said that they usually charge more based on the type of band, but it’s typically around $50.

When I first got my rings they actually fit just right then just a few years later I out grew them! My advice is put up with the spacer for a little while as you may need it bigger later. I know it was costly to try and enlarge my rings and made me cry to not be able to wear them!

I think the type of metal can also affect the price?

I had a platinum ring sized and I think it was $75.

Mine cost $75 to do. It’s platinum with pave stones.

When the resize it, not only are the cutting out some metal and refusing, they also have to check (and potentially re-set) all the pave stones because the curvature of the band has changed.

The more intricate the band, the more difficult (and expensive) the sizing.

Where my fiance got my engagment ring and will get my wedding band, they have life time resizing and cleaning anytime. You should check on that

Good luck!

All of the big box mall stores where I live charge $50 for two sizes up and more if you need a size is larger than 2. However to size down is usually like $25-30 even for more than two sizes as people said.

They only charged me $20 to get my ring de-attached and re-sized. It was soldered to my previous band. I couldn’t believe it! I have would have gladly paid more lol.
