Hi Bees, I just got the email from the jeweler that the ring is ready, picture below. As you can see, we went with a split shank, princess in kite setting. I had been assured by the jeweler that the ring as quite square and I know that those are hard to come by. When I saw the picture that he sent me, my heart sank a little since I see the difference clearly. I’m unsure if it’s becuase it’s enlarged it stands out more and I’m nitpicking it. Would it bother you, or am I just seeing it so close up that any flaw would stand out? Not sure if the picture is too big, it’s the first time I’ve posted a picture.

gee I really don’t know. I do see how it’s not a perfect square. Were you able to pick your diamond? Or did the jeweler just pick one out himself? I too have a princess cut and mine is very square…

One side definitely looks longer. It looks like a rectangle. Go see it in person and don’t pick up if its not right. I don’t think your overreacting, it’s a big purchase I would freak out too. But try not to too much before you see it in person.

That would drive me nuts.
I would ask for a copy of the diamond grading certificate – it should list the measurements.

That is not a perfect square, and would drive me bananas. But put it straight in the setting and it would look amazing!

Nope not a square. Don’t let him tell you you’re crazy!

definitely doesn’t look square to me, which I’d always notice. Agree with PP, see it in person and don’t accept it if it’s not what you want – you’re paying (presumably) good money for it, it should be exactly what you want (and were expecting).

It looks like a radiant cut as opposed to a princess cut. Did you select your diamond? Princess cuts are always square. It looks off to me as well. Either it should be a princess cut in a kite setting or a princess or radiant straight on as pp said. This looks like a radient in a kite setting. No bueno!

the stone looks slightly elongated which is make the design look off. I would ask for a different stone with the proper ration to be square

Beautiful setting, but that’s not a square! I’d take it up with the jeweler.

Thank you everyone, you assurances helped me. I did request for a princess cut in a kite setting. It is not a radiant cut, it’s just an elongated princess. I will not accept it.

Yeah that princess cut is definitely on the rectangular side which I happen to prefer. But I wouldn’t want to set it in a kite setting because of this. Can the jeweler reposition the head in the traditional way?

Nope. It’s wonky for sure.

Definitely off. I thought it was a radiant for a second.
