Hi bees. I got a problem. My wedding ring is probably around 80-90 years old. It was my great grandmother’s, grandmother’s, and mom’s wedding ring. I noticed a couple months ago that some of the prongs were practically nonexistent. Terrified of losing a diamond I stopped wearing it and conducted my search of which jewelry store to take it to. I decided to take it to a mom and pop shop, that had a jeweler in house, which is BBB accredited. Good idea, right? I thought so. So I dropped it off on Saturday and went to pick it up yesterday.
Ok, I go in and they gave me my ring back to look at before I pay and it looks COMPLETELY wonky. It’s a five stone band, with 4 prongs holding in each stone. They were to retip all the prongs, and they did…but with some problems. The first problem is that one of the prongs was HUGE, like visibly stuck out on the side, was super thick, ect. After talking to the owner, he finally admitted there was a problem and that they are going to shave it down to fix it. The second problem is with the individual 4 prongs on each diamond. They don’t seem to be evenly spaced or placed exactly in the 4 corners. . Thinking about it, I know at LEAST 2 of the diamonds on the ring look like this. I told them I didn’t like it, and they said they just placed the tip on the prong; they can’t do anything about the prong original placement. Can’t they bend the prong to be back in a corner? I’m sure over the years the prongs probably got bent out of place.
So now my stomach is in complete knots. I’m super stressed that they won’t make it better. Do you ladies have any advice on the prongs issue, so I can make sure they aren’t pulling a fast one over my eyes?
