Yes, I have had many rings resized with no problems. If its basic I see no harm, most jewelers would tell you if they think it will be risky.

a_day_at_the_fair:  Yes I’ve done this and it worked out fine and fits perfectly. Because I didn’t buy it there, they appraised the ring before and gave me a receipt with the value on it incase anything happened to it.

Sure why not! I’m sure it would be totally fine. The only reason I’d look for a local jewelry store that has a jeweler on site is because I don’t like to wait weeks for basic sizing and repairs. Although I think Jared has a jeweler on site that does quick repairs the same day.

I find that they tend to cost more than a local jeweler. Helzberg wanted $100 to size up a ring that I bought from them (1.5 sizes) where as a local jeweler only charged me $30.

Is there any type of warranty on your ring that states repairs or modificiations must be done through the original jeweler/company? 

If no, then I don’t think it should be a problem! If yes, then I would take the extra time to send it in to the original jeweler.

Yes like pp asked, would any warranty from the manufacturer be voided by having outside work done to it? Also if it’s platinum you might have a harder time finding a local jeweler who is able to work with it on site. Most of the ones I talked to would have had to send my ring away. If it’s gold though, you’ll have no issue.

I’d bring it too a smaller jeweller.

Honestly I found when looking, a smaller jeweller cost less and also was more personal AND took MUCH less time.

I paid $25 to get mine done and it took a whole day. If I went to a big box type store it would take over a week or two (read all the waiting for it to come back stories)  as they send it away to be done. If I was unhappy the jeweller was right there making sure it fit and he would have re – done it immediatly.

I’d never go to a chain store for something like that.

smoocherific:  I agree with everything you said. 

I took my ring to be resized at a local jeweler and they had it done in like 2 hours and it was like $50

Most of the chain stores send the ring away for work so it takes 1-2 weeks and there is the (small) possibility of it getting lost. I took my ring in on Tuesday to my local jeweler and it’s already ready for pick up
