    I found a ring that I love. I wasn’t worried about the “One”, because I don’t have to wear one ring to the exclusion of all others for the rest of my life.

    Well, you can’t go wrong with a classic solitare…….purchase a great stone and you can always upgrade/change the setting later.  And like HelenBerry said, it’s perfectly okay to have more than one ring.  I have a yellow gold round stone engagement ring and as a gift for last Christmas Hubby gave me a white gold princess cut.

    I mentioned once to my now Fiance, then Boyfriend or Best Friend, that I really loved the look of art-decoish rings and LOVED ascher cut diamonds.  One time I mentioned this…over drinks with friends on a random Thursday night.  Seriously, a year and a half later, he surprised me on Christmas night with a gorgeous pave setting with a 1 carat ascher cut solitaire.  My jaw hit the ground…  LOVE it, and LOVE that he did it all on his own and had that one conversation in the back of his mind for so long.  He has since taken to reminding me that I have 121 diamonds on my left hand… I think that he Loves it too… Laughing

    @mandigrl04:  I wanted a non-diamond stone too (I wound up with a blue diamond).

    I was also concerned about a non-diamond looking not-engagement-ring-like, so our solution was going to be finding an engagement ring setting that would normally be for a diamond, and then setting in an aquamarine stone.  I found a lot of gemstone rings looked like cocktail rings when they were pre-set.

    For the record, I have an art deco style ring. It is an square black center stone, with two smaller diamonds to each side. It is a white gold, eight-prong setting.

    @mandigrl04: They do, especially from mall jewelers!  Maybe try some independent shops, or look online at different places.  That definitely helped me!

    FH and I went ring shopping the day after Thanksgiving last year (total surprise to me.. he said “want to look at rings today?” and I said “um.. YES!!”) I had a completely different one on and he found the one we ended up getting on the other side of the store. He showed it to me and I knew before I put it on that “my one” had just found “the one”. I didn’t know he bought it the very next day without me there and was asking him for weeks if he bought it, I would even forward him sale coupons I would get through my email! He finally said if I brought it up again he wasn’t going to buy it (he had already bought it at this point). The exact one that I had tried on, which I thought was kind of cool that he didn’t have to order one, etc. He proposed 3 weeks later at Disney’s Magic Kingdom in front of Cinderella’s Castle! (actual picture of proposal.. he set it up with the Disney Photopass photographer ahead of time! I found myself a keeper! ๐Ÿ™‚
