I think it depends on your setting. If it’s a solitaire, it’s easier to resize and you can do it several times. If it’s an eternity setting, it’s a bit more difficult and you’d definitely need to consult with your jeweler.

You can also consider getting the “knobby” things on the inside of your band to make it fit tighter…

The metal sizer could have been thicker/wider than your actual ring.  The thicker/wider it is, the tighter it fits.  Also, when you get your wedding band, everything will fit tighter.  Keep in mind every time you size it, it weakens the metal.  Maybe you should look at getting the sizing knots put on the inside.  They keep it from spinning also.
