Yes. When stacking it definitely helps to go up in about 2/4 to 1/2  size with one or both. If one do the outer one so near thicker part of finger. (as u said)

I’d head over to a jewler and ask if 1/4 or 1/2 a size up would work better. 

When I first got my ring earlier this week, it was a hot and muggy day and having it set in a 4.5 size was juuust right, with a small muffin top. But now that it’s back to being cold (thanks, New England!), I wish I’d gotten a 4.25. So, what I’m saying is, even a change of 1/4 of a size might be enough. You don’t want the ring to come off too easily.
