I plan to get my wedding band soldered to my e-ring, since the wedding band curves dramatically around the e-ring and I’d never wear it separately. Fiance and I were talking last night about when to get it done. I didn’t really want to get it done before the wedding, as Fiance would want me to get them soldered a little early (just in case) and then wouldn’t want me to have the set back until he puts it on my finger. On the other hand, I don’t really want to let the jeweler have it for an extended period of time after we’re already married either, unless it was over our honeymoon. The only reason for liking this option is that we’re going on a cruise and I don’t want to risk the ring getting lost if I remove it for beach excursions and the like. (This may just be paranoia.)
If you’re getting your rings soldered together, when are you doing it? When should I? HELP!

I had my rings solder together a few months after the wedding. I went to a jewlery store that was able to have the ring back to me in less that 24 hours. You may want to check to see if there are any stores in your area that do same day work.

@Miss BBQ: I’m having the same problem!
sorry it’s so big!! But my wedding band fits into the grooves and I’m honestly tempted to just go buy a new band!

I don’t plan on getting mine soldered together but if I were, I would definitely do it while we were on our Honeymoon. We’re taking a cruise as well and I plan on purchasing an inexpensive (i.e. fake) wedding set to wear so that I don’t run the risk of losing it.
I wouldn’t want to get it done before since the band symbolizes your actual wedding. Wearing it before-hand seems a little silly and I would definitely not want to part with my e-ring for the weeks leading up to our wedding.

I know many of my friends have had their rings soldered right before the wedding so it’s set and ready for the wedding. These girls have not gone on immediate honeymoons though, so they didn’t really want to give up their ring right after the wedding when they’re still around town and enjoying the wedding buzz 🙂 I plan to solder mine right before because I’ll have a slim band that is soldered to my solitaire as well as a wider plain band to wear alone, and we don’t plan to go anywhere right after the wedding, so I don’t mind having it done early.
ETA: around here, ‘before the wedding’ really means drop it off on Wed, pick it up on Friday and get married on Saturday. No one really wears their band before the big day.

@indibee: I guess I should find out how long it takes them to solder it. We’re leaving for our honeymoon the Thursday after our Saturday wedding.

@Miss BBQ: Depending on where your ring is from, or if you take it to a local jeweler, that can make a big difference. I know Riddles and Helzbergs ship them out from here so it takes at least a week. I have a family ring, so if I take it to a local jeweler to get my band soldered, they usually take it for 3 days. But if you arrange with them you can maybe even get it done in 24 hours since their goldsmith is in town and the ring never leaves the shop.
