I’ve heard ring tattoos don’t last too long, and a lot of tattoo artists don’t recommend getting them for that reason.

I know a couple who did this…. They got divorced within a year.  I’m not a fan.

Not my thing personally, I’d rather just wear a ring and get something meaningful engraved on it.

I know a lot of people who have knuckle tattoos that look fine after several years. The key is to get a thick, bold line and no small details as they will start to blend together over time, and a simple design will be easy to touch up and look decent.

If you want it, go for it, just make sure you do your research and find someone reputable.

I like them!  I agree that my work would flip out but I know a few girls who’s husbands work in restaurants or body shops, places where they either can’t wear their rings or if they did they’d get beat up, so the guys have rings tattood on their fingers.

A friend of mine got one done 2ish years ago and it’s already faded/bled and looks completely ridiculous.  She now wears an even wider band to cover it up.  Not recommended.

@wrkbrk:  I don’t hate tattoos, but I would seriously think twice about this. Most reputable tattoo artists (at least in my area) refuse to do the hands or face – and for good reason.

From a practical point of view, tattoos can migrate after a few years and look all smudged and gross. If you need to cover it up with a wedding band anyway, what is the point?

So many people end up changing their minds and having tattoos removed – on places that are less visible.

I’m not trying to be rude or anything, but tastes change… hell, I change my mind on some things from week to week. I know myself better than to get something inked on my body.

And people will judge you… right or wrong.

I just wouldn’t put myself into the situation. If you NEED to get some sort of tattoo related to your relationship, get it somewhere less visible. It always seems to be the kiss of death to do that sort of thing, though… like a jinx haha.
