@ColoradoGirl:  It depends a little on how unique the ring is, but I’m pretty sure any sales person should be able to pick out something similar, especially if it is a fairly common style. My plan B would be to print out a couple photographs of the ring and have a local jeweler custom make it for you. It is often about the same price as it would be getting it from a chain store (sometimes cheaper).

Please post a picture because now I’m insanely curious about it.

I am sure the sales associate will be able to help find something similar.  Also, if he is ready to get the ring, nothing will stop him from doing it and he won’t push the timeline back.  A few bumps won’t get in his way.  I was really worried about this too because we looked at rings in November 2010 and it has been well over a year and a half.  I keep checking obsessively to make sure the styles are still available too.  ONe thing we did that could help if you are able to look again is I picked out four settings I liked an dhe is going to surprise me with one.  I love them all, but that way it is up to him and he feels like he is selecting the ring, but I still make sure it is something I like.  Just an idea in the event you look again to prevent this from happening?  Bottom line, don’t panic, the sale speople know what they are doing, and don’t forget they want ot make the sale, so they are not going to let him panic and leave, they will lead him to a similar ring or find it on back order – just because it is discontinued, doesn’t mean the settings are not still out there!  hang in there!

If you’re actually worried, you should call the store and ask them about it.  They will be able to tell you if it’s actually discontinued.  And if so, you can ask them if they have a similar style in stock.  They probably can even email you pictures of it, etc.  If they can help you, they can definitely help your boyfriend.

When we went to Jared the ring I liked had the “brown tag” on it (Meaning that it was discontinued) and so they were trying to pressure the bf to purchase it right then (which he was unprepared to do).  They really kind hassled him about it.

As soon as we got home, we went on a bunch of other jewelery store sites and looked for similar rings in case it was discontinued by the time he went back.  Just so he knew what to look for.

And I ended up liking the blue nile setting better 🙂

If it makes you feel any better, jewelry from chain stores like Jared’s tends to be not of the greatest quality, and the workmanship on repairs and resizing seems to be shoddy fairly often. Perhaps take this as an opportunity to look elsewhere (independent jewelers and such)?

I’m going to be optimistic and say it is just currently out of stock, so the page is not available for that item.  That is what happened with my setting. It was terrifying to sometimes see it listed on the site…and sometimes not.

@ColoradoGirl, I feel for ya.  My SO and I went looking at e-rings recently when we were on vacation.  I found a ring that I truly loved / adored at a US Jewellery Outlet.  But because it was early days, and we were on vacation and out of the country (complicated to bring expensive goods back to Canada).  We agreed we would look some more once we got home.

On our preliminary Jewellery Store visits here, I cannot find something the same or even similar.  I am trying to be optimistic, but I do feel that the e-ring on vacation was THE ONE, and I may never find something identical or even close again (it was very unusual… which is no doubt WHY I loved it so much).  I am not looking for a Solitaire this time round (TTR), having done that when I was married the first time, and was much younger.

In regards to the ring that I fell in love with, I am hoping that I am wrong.  That either, I will find something else that will knock my socks off… or my SO has somehow managed to purchase this stunning ring without my knowing it.

Unless I find something similar… or even more outstanding as we continue our browsing.  Then my Back Up Plan is suggest that we look at having a ring custom made for us by a reputable jeweller that would have some of the unique features that I saw on the other ring.

The others are right though… in that, although the chain stores and their Outlets have a great deal to choose from their quality isn’t always the best (educate yourself on the 4Cs).  Value is usually good though at such stores because they have so many rings to choose from, and of course are buying in bulk (for some, like myself that can be a downside, as there are not many rings that are “individualistic”).

PS… NEW_BEE here, could some one enlighten me, how I post so that the addressee’s name is highlighted, like the others of you have done in this topic.  Thanks.
