sorry for the ignorance, but do follicles refer to IVF treatments?

IUI cycles can be a little riskier in terms of multiples because if you produce multiple follicles and they all release an egg and all those eggs fertilize… Boom multiples. This is versus IVF where you are choosing to transfer back how many embryos. I had an IUI cycle where my monitoring showed 5 follicles with the potential to become mature. They backed off on meds and I think I got down to 3 that actually made it. I still proceeded with the cycle. So it is definitely possible that your body will respond and slow growth!

ETA: my clinic looks for between 1-3 follicles for IUI. Even if you have more than one that doesn’t mean they will all fertilize it’s just a higher risk.

What meds are you on? If it’s Clomid or Fermera, they can’t really do much because youve already taken it.

i believe there is a bee, Swizzle something?, who conceived triplets after an IUI where she had 3 follicles.

FWIW I had 4 follicles during our iui cycle and am currently sitting beside my perfect 3 week old twin boys! Twins are a lot of work and the pregnancy was hard towards the end but these boys are perfect and I wouldn’t have it any other way!

weightwatchers152:  thanks for this thread – I’m on clomid right now and have CD10 testing this week and I didn’t realize they sometimes skip the IUI if you have too many follicles! My doc told me that since I have a high ovarian reserve that my chance of multiples is even a little higher than normal. It’s so frustrating – apparently I have plenty of eggs but my stupid ovaries are just hoarding them!

weightwatchers152:  We just found out we’re carrying multiples–twins! I had two follicles, possibly a third, so the risk is very real.

EL2101:  Ahh, congrats! We’re having twins too! I guess high HCG levels are indicative of multiples afterall πŸ™‚
