Welcome to weddingbee! That’s a stunning ring… I personally wouldn’t worry about the carat weight of the center stone too much. Too many people get caught up in the ‘must be 1 carat’ idea and if you’ve found a beautiful ring that’s a little less then most people won’t be able to tell unless they get really close, especially with the halo and what matters is that you love it!

However, you are right that you will be paying for the designer name as well… I would suggest you also check out the pricescope forums and maybe even post the exact same question there. they are VERY HELPFUL people on there who would love nothing more than to find you a better deal, it might even be cheaper to go custom! It sounds strange but often if you have a custom ring made by an online wholesaler you will get excellent quality and a much better price… plus you could even get them to make it a little lower set if that was bothering you. I think the Zales design is noce too… much it’s not really got the beautiful delicacy of the first one.

Hope that helps!

All I was going to say was: two words — Price Scope.

But MrsT beat me to it! 🙂

Halos are VERY much in right now, and a private jeweler may be able to find or even make you something very similar.  Some custom designs are actually cheaper than designer settings.  Also, a custom job may not only be turn out to be cheaper and allow you to have the stone set lower, but it may also be made to the perfect proportions with respect to your center stone.

I totally agree with MrsT2B in terms of checking out pricescope.  You will undoubtedly find a wealth of information there.

I don’t really think there should be a concern of ‘paying more than its “worth”‘ if its the ring you truely love.  The concept of worth only really matter if you ever intend on selling it.  Your Fiance will believe its worth ever penny as long as you love your ring regardless of if the money was spent on the material or for a design you love.  Also in the halo setting, you’re totally right that a 0.75 will look larger since the halo takes up a lot of space on your finger also, so if its the setting and ring you love, I wouldn’t let that size differece bother you.  If you haven’t come across this thread yet, check it out for lots of pics of halo settings..

Any bee’s with a halo setting?
