My family was at the second of four tastings this week at very highly rated restaurants, but this one wasn’t going well.
The food tasted out of a freezer from Sam’s Club for $80 a person. The kitchen was hot. They only gave us mini bottles of water to drink, and it was 99 degrees outside. We were in the middle of starters when I saw the first one… ON MY MOM’s CARDIGAN!!! Sooo gross! Then my Future Father-In-Law threw it outside. We said, hey Chef, there’s a roach out here! She says, “Oh, usually we bomb them. You’ll start seeing dead ones.” What the f*** does that mean?? Usually when we have roaches?? Gross! I wanted to leave, but we’d planned the menu for months and decided to stay.
She brought out the dinners, and my vegetarian entree, a portobello mushroom stack, really looked like two frozen boca patties surrounded by cheese goo. I was mad. THEN MY Future Father-In-Law starts shaking his chair. A ROACH WAS CRAWLING UP HIS LEG!!!
We’d never hire this caterer. Obviously. I think I should call the health department. But anyway, if your food’s bad, at least be glad there aren’t roaches on your mom!

Call the health department! Seriously, gross. 1. They have roaches. 2. I doubt they’re taking precautions to avoid chemical contamination when they bomb. 3. They leave dead roaches laying around.

definitely call the health dept. we run a restaurant and would never even dream of having any kind of critter in our restaurant at all. if it is kept absolutely clean then bugs will not be there.

Are you from florida? Just wondering, because down there those roaches are actually palmetto bugs, and they are EVERYWHERE. I know that it’s gross, but they were super commonplace when I lived there, and we had to bomb my house quite a bit just to keep them away. It seems like there were still way too many, I’ve never had one crawl one me! That’s nasty!

Please call the health department! You may also want to contact the BBB so other brides don’t try this place…

I emailed the Health Department with the date/time of the visit! I do understand that roaches/palmetto bugs are more common in the South, but I’ve lived in FL 13 years and never seen one in an eatery. Plus she obviously was aware of the issue and continued cooking.
My experience definetly proves you can’t believe the ratings you see online. They’re all glowing for this business, and bugs aside- the food was awful.
I thought we were crazy for looking at four caterers, but I’d really recommend it to any brides who haven’t chosen a caterer yet.

@MindyLou: This actually made me vomit in my mouth, sorry if that is Too Much Information. Thank You for calling the health department. I also suggest writing reviews and POSTING them everywhere.

I’ve lived in florida and I was under the impression palmetto bugs and roaches were the same thing. If not, they’re equally as disgusting. And although there are a lot of them down there, NICE places keep them under control. We used to have an exterminator who would come by every two weeks and spray and we NEVER had one in our place (because they kept on top of it).

Eeewwwwww I’m glad you emailed the health department! I would never set foot in that building again or eat their food. At $80 a plate, I would expect top notch service, taste, quality, and cleanliness.

Bravo to you for staying after you saw the first one. If it were me, I’d be flying out of there and on my phone with the health dept as soon as I was outside! That’s so gross!! ick! I’m shivering just thinking about it!
What was your portobello stack supposed to be? I want to do stuffed portobellos for my veggie entree, but a stack sounds good too!
