@Birdee106:  I actually bought some Mucinex to try next month if I don’t get pregnant this month.  It’s apparently the generic ingredient that’s in Robitussin and Mucinex called Guaifenesin that thins out the mucus if you don’t get a lot of CM.  I had a cervical biopsy done last summer that likely took some of the mucus-producing glands, so that’s personally why I am planning to try it soon!

@Birdee106:  I’ve never heard of this, but I wanted to ask if you have considered going to a fertility specialist? If you’ve been TTC over a year, most insurance will cover it.

@Birdee106:  I bought the pills, because I hate liquid cold medicine.  I think I have the 12-hour pills, and I have read conflicting stories about either taking it once in the am and once in the pm or just once at night for the 5 days leading up to ovulation. Also, make sure that the Robitussin only has the Guaifenesin as the active ingredient, because apparently if it has anything else it can actually cause you to dry up.

I also just want to note that I have gathered all of this info via Googling, and I am not a medical professional 🙂

@Birdee106:  I remember reading about this when my sister was ttc. Here’s an article explaining how and why it helps your cm

I’m a pharmacist, and if this were to work, you would have to take a heck of a lot, as guiafenesin itself really isn’t a very effective medication.  You’re always told to take it with lots of water anyway – it’s the water itself than thins out the mucus – not really guaifenesin.

I have no idea if it helped, but I did take Robitussin for the days leading up to my o date  the month we conceived and it was the first month I tried the Robitussin. It took us 11 months to get a BFP.  I don’t want to get your hopes up and claim it’s a miracle drug.  I do know both it and Mucinex help with CM.  It may have helped me or it may not have.  It’s worth a try!  I also took Royal Jelly to help with CM.

@Birdee106:  Not that we were trying for very long…  but the month we conceived I took Mucinex and I drank grape fruit juice (about a glass a day).  So I guess you can say it worked for us!!
