- Wedding: September 2013
Hi all – I haven’t posted much before but relied so much on other posts throughout my wedding planning that I wanted to share some of my experiences now that the wedding has past (one week ago!) in the hopes that it helps another out-of-town bride planning a wedding in Rochester, NY. I think one of the biggest challenges was selecting vendors, so most of the list below goes through who I used and how it worked out.
Ceremony location: Linehan Chapel at Nazareth College. Beautiful chapel, air conditioned :), and non-demoniational so you can bring in officiants of any religious denomination. I liked this option because I haven’t lived in Rochester recently enough to feel like I’m a part of any church there. I also considered outside but decided that I can’t trust Rochester weather enough :).
Reception location: Max at High Falls. I’m not sure how much longer the High Falls location will be available, but we loved it since it’s very unique. Max food was excellent – I never realized salmon and sirloin prepared for that many people could taste so good!
DJ: Brian Wright at Just Wright Entertainment: Probably the vendor I was most excited to have found. Not a lot of online reviews yet but after having a conversation with him, we went with our gut and it was definitely the right choice! He’s flexible and creative (we wanted a trivia game during our reception, and he was all for it), responsive and enthusiastic. Kept the energy going all night.
Dessert: Incredible Edible Cookie Company – delicious! I did a cupcake tower and bite-size dessert trays. Very tasty and high quality. Easy to work with as well.
Flowers: My mother used her long proven flower arranging abilities! My bouquest and table centerpieces relied a lot on roses, which we ordered in bulk from Sam’s Club. They were delivered on time, in good condition (we followed the instructions on maintaining them), and were really beautiful. We were a little hesitant ordering flowers this way but it worked out really well.
Monroe School Transportation: We had shuttles for the wedding party and guests from the hotel to the reception. Showed up on time and generally reliable.
Hyatt Regency: We blocked rooms here. They have a cool system where you get a spreadsheet every week to track who has reserved hotel rooms. Maybe a lot of hotels have this but either way I found it super helpful.
Hope this helps – good luck to all the Rochester brides out there!
