My Darling Husband and I are long distance again (boo!). Only seeing each other every few weeks, I feel like it’s more of a struggle to stay connected, so I want to make an extra effort.
Anyone have fun ideas for sweet/romantic long distance surprises? I’m not into spending a lot of money on this kind of thing (we’re both pretty frugal and he’s more of a “it’s the thought that counts” kind of guy) but just want to think of a few sweet things to do to let him know I’m thinking of him beyond our regular old phone/text/email routine.
For example, I recently happened to come across a sweet, funny card that reminded me of him. I wrote a note and mailed it to him, and he really liked it.
Any ideas?

@cbgg: ill return the favor..bc i was in a LDR for 2 years.
(this may be weird but sometimes weird is good..and fun)
i used to put a peice of paper down and trace a part of my body…usually hand or foot and in the hand i would write all the reasons i love him.. hed send one back of the same body part and idk for some reason it was like a peice of him..i knew that was the exact measurement of his hands and it was oddly comforting to be able to look at.
it was also fun to try to guess what body part it was..the knee was a funny one. anywho we have them still…just fun to look back at all the WORK we put into things.

When FH and I were long distance, I made him a cd of songs we liked and reminded me of him–kinda cheesy but he loved it. He sent me flowers…maybe you could send him something else he would like, chocolates or something cheap? Skype/FaceTime?

@Laurenskii: I don’t think it’s that weird! I mean, it’s weird enough to be fun, but not weird enough to be terribly embarassing if someone found it.

When Fiance and I were super long distance, I crocheted things for him sometimes. My best was a pair of Super Mario mushrooms.

@cbgg: I kissed the card I sent him with red lipstick on. It left a nice, big lucious lip imprint haha. He loved it and kept it right beside his headboard.
You can send him pics of you two together with a cute note on the back…”Looking forward to making more wonderful memories.”

I was long distance with SO for 3 years before I moved to Canada. He loved my baking so I’d send him a bix of goodies to surprise him. Or I’d buy him an Edible Arrangement and have it delivered. I’ve also found cute nerdy cards on etsy and sent them to him.
We also used MSN messenger as much as possible because we could see each other on cam. It makes it helped me a lot to see him because we couldn’t call each other (different countries)

Snail mail goes a long way. He sends me an article of clothing every so often, and it’s lovely because it smells like him. I’ve sent him cards – but I always write a ton and do random crazy doodles. Now when we send cards we try to one-up each other with our goofy drawings.
We also make sure to FaceTime/Skype regularly. It goes a long way.

My SO and I send little messages on Eyejot to each other when our schedules are busy and we can’t Skype or talk on the phone. He’s recited love poems, I’ve sung him dumb songs – it’s just nice to get aa surprise ittle video of him when I’m especially busy with work so I know he’s thinking about me.
There’s a smartphone app called Pair that has various things for long-distance couples to do, like share diaries etc. There’s a very cute feature it has where the phone will vibrate when you both put your thumb on the same place on the screen at the same time.
