I had a root canals (2) at one time. It wasn’t too bad, any pain after is easier to deal with then the pain before hand.  I don’t think you’re going to be out of the loop for more than a day after the root canals.  It’s mostly just sore.  I went  back to work right after mine. Hang in there!

Yikes, I have not-the-best teeth, and I know that I’ll probably need a root canal at some point in my life (tooo many fillings that are toooo close to the nerve).

I know that I stress out about procedures more than I probably need to before they actually happen, so hopefully it won’t be as bad as you might expect.

Thinking of you!

I have had a couple root canals and they really aren’t that bad in terms of pain. I was prescribed Vicodin each time and I never even used it.

Depending on your dentist (and whether or not you can get a ride home), some will prescribe you a mild sedative as well just to take the edge off.  Only catch is that you cannot drive home by yourself, and you’ll be seriously loopy that day.

@SweetMelissa429:  oh man, i really feel for you!! i hateee going to the dentist… i have very porous teeth, so every time i go i have a few fillings that need to be done. πŸ™  i think i’m going to have 4 the next time i go, and i want to get them taken care of before the wedding (which is a while away). i’m positive you’ll feel way better once it’s all taken care of!!

@SweetMelissa429:  I also have had the unfortunate luck of eating too much candy in my youth. Unfortunately even if you take really good care of them as you get older, problems still happen. However, getting a root canal isn’t much more difficult than going through a very long cavity filling. You might have some swelling and pain for a couple days but after that things should be back to normal. It’s probably just as easy to have them both done at once than in two separate surgeries. By next weekend you should be okay again. As far as teeth go, you probably haven’t seen the end of dental work on them. Teeth that have had root canals are weakened. If you don’t need to put a crown for support on it at this point, it’s probably something you will have to have done in the future.

I had 3 fillings and a root canal less than a month before my wedding.  I still need to have a crown put in but need to save up the money for that.  It sucked for a few days but I was fine after that.  The good thing about the root canal is that once it’s done, there’s nothing left to cause pain after the swelling and gum trauma heals!

@SweetMelissa429:  I understand. It’s lucky that you are in Knoxville then. When I needed to get dental work done without insurance I went to the dental clinic at a university nearby. It took longer to get the work done but the care was excellent and less than half the price of a typical office. Dental schools always have the most modern equipment. If price is an issue I recommend taking a day off and going there because in the end you will come out way ahead.

I actually prefer a root canal to a filling! Nowadays, root canals are way quicker than they used to be and require less to “recover”. My dentist will do a root canal on anything but the molars. I was out of the door after getting numbed in 45 minutes.

You will be fine. πŸ™‚ I never got any scripts for pain meds and I was okay.

I had an accident when I was younger that cracked my front teeth….had to have four root canals. But, I really don’t remember them.

As far as being sick/on medications close to your wedding I can share your pain (no pun intended)! I got the flu over the weekend…..the day of my bachelorette party πŸ™ I am literally just returning to life (and work) today. I am sooooooo behind with wedding now, but I figure it will get done one way or another πŸ™‚
