My boyfriend and I are currently in the process of designing a custom engagement ring. We’ve picked out the stone–a 5.69 carat champagne sapphire–and a dainty, micropave setting. However, we’re having a hard time deciding if we should go with rose gold or white gold for the setting. I wear all tones of jewelry, so there’s no obvious choice. What do you all think? Here is the actual stone perched on rose and white gold (the metal won’t be around the stone when it’s completed…it’s just for comparison).

itsanewbee: I personally would say rose gold.

BEAUTIFUL stone! I think rose gold would set it off best. The two would look so luxuriously warm and play off each other”s colors!

The rose gold looks amazing with your stone! I’m in love! I’ve been debating between the two as well! I’m only worried that I will grow out of my rose gold jewlery phase and wish I had gotten white gold.

I know you said you wear all tones of gold but I’d have a different question: do you wear mostly cool colours or mostly warm colours? The white gold would go better with cool, the rose gold with warm. If you don’t tend towards a particular tone in colours then the rose sets off the sapphire best.

Rose gold for sure. I feel like the white gold kind of washes out the stone.

silvergrey: Truthfully, I wear it all. Today I’m wearing rose gold earrings, a copper ring, a sterling silver ring, and a yellow gold plated necklace. I promise I don’t look as much as a hot mess as I sound! 🙂

aurora_xo: That’s the same line of thinking I have. I guess worst case I can always have the stone reset if I ever get sick of the rose gold. I made a point of asking the boyfriend to spend more of the budget on the stone than the setting, just in case I ever want to switch it up.

itsanewbee: rose gold for sure! The white gold washes the stunning stone out. The rose gold gives it more dimension.
