quixoticallyours : Yellow gold, rose gold, palladium and platinum are solid metals that require no plating. White gold is routinely plated with rhodium to make is white and shiny, although many today are electing not to plate it (see examples of metal colors below).

But, white gold in the US still contains nickel, unless you find palladium-white gold. White gold in the UK contains no nickel. There are some special white gold alloys that are allowed to be sold in the UK and don’t require plating, but if you are super-sensitive to nickel these still may be an issue.

Here’s a bunch of pictures showing various metals.

From Yssie on Pricescope

A – plat (950/ru)
B – unplated 18k nickel wg from e-wb, stock piece
C – unplated 18k nickel wg from e-wb, custom piece (different manufacturer, matches my WF custom Ering metal perfectly)
D – plated 18k wg from WF
E – 22k

My vote is for rose gold! I just got my ring on Saturday and love it! My diamond is warmer in color (L) and I think it looks beautiful. i’m very fair and wanted to avoid the very white stone on white metal on white skin effect!Β

I think the rose gold looks lovely on you. I prefer it to the white gold.

quixoticallyours :  I love rose gold! So much so that I have two rings in Rose gold, one 9k and the other is 14k. To answer your question, no rose gold doesn’t need replating and it does keep its shine and colour. Just needs a general clean and shines brightly.

I say, if you love the Rose gold go for it! I’ve had my e-ring for around year or so and still don’t tire of looking at it.

quixoticallyours :  They both look good, but I really like the idea of rose gold. I almost did a rose gold shank with white gold prongs when I did my upgrade recently, but ultimately decided on white gold because it was “safe”. If you do white gold or platinum prongs you could use either metal for a wedding band πŸ™‚

I wouldn’t worry about it not looking good with moissanite. What type of moissanite and shape are you going for?
