OK I’ve been very lucky recently and an opportunity has come up to chose between 2 diamonds – I don’t know the exact specs regarding clarity but they are both eye-clean at least without and visable inclusions and they’re more or less around the same size with the old European cut being a bit smaller and within a low colour range – almost champagne.
Both diamonds are free as one will be gifted to my Fiance and the other to his sister.
I would put the diamond in a simple setting with a micropave or antique inspired band cos for the moment I don’t have more money for something more elaborate due to the fact I’m saving for the wedding.
I don’t have photos of the actual diamonds but just in case you didn’t know.
Old European cut
I would put the round brilliant in something like this:-
And the OEC in something like this – the diamond in the picture is actually a similar colour.

You are very lucky to have one of them given to you that is awesome. I am really all about colour so I would pic the Ring Bearer. If they were both a good colour I would go for the OEC one 100%. The OEC colour wont be so bad if you had it in a solitaire setting but when you have it in something with other whiter diamonds, like the setting you chose, you might notice it more….GOOD LUCK and cant wait to see the final product!

I am very color sensitive, so I voted for the Ring Bearer. But it really depends on the cut quality of each stone. Have you seen them side by side to compare? Which one speaks to you more?

OEC by a country mile.
I’ve realised in the past year that I genuinely don’t like modern Ring Bearer diamonds for myself. It’s not like I don’t think they’re pretty, just that they look a bit boring on my hand (no matter how excellent the cut is).

Wow the votes are 50/50!
I have to admit I was leaning more towards the OEC because I also recently inherited a diamond ring from my Great-Aunt (these diamonds are from my FI’s grandmother) but I don’t know if the colour would bother me or not. They are both really beautiful in person.
My Fiance is completely gobsmacked that we’ve both inherited jewellery recently – I bet secretly he wishes he waited to propose to me (my Great-Aunt passed away many years ago and his Grannie is still alive so no bad feelings from me if he thinks that).
I’ve also got another project happening too, I’m resetting a sapphire ring that I also inherited from my Great-Aunt and I’ll be sure to post pics!!

I’m an antique cut girl all the way! I just think they look so romantic.

I voted for the round brilliant based on the fact that the diamonds are 2 different colours and I prefer colourless.

It’s tough. Both would be equally pretty. I actually think a champagne colored diamond is gorgeous in the right setting. What color setting where you thinking of having?
I don’t mind color in diamonds. I think they were pretty. I do love Ring Bearer though. So I am no help here. :b

@SpecialSundae: I completely agree with this. I sincerely dislike RBs also. But I LOVE OEC. gorgeous. Plus, I like warmer diamonds. I don’t have a warm diamond, but I think they look just gorgeous and have such great personality. I would go with the OEC if it was me.

I have a round brilliant personally and I love it. BUT every so often a secret part of me longs for an OEC! Lower colors are very characteristic of OECs and I wouldn’t let that bother me.

I LOVE antique cuts, provided that the diamond is high quality enough that it still sparkles! I’m all about a cut that no one has so I would definitely choose the OEC.

I am completely in love with the OECs myself. I just love the chunkiness and the big flashes of color. I also LOVE the side profile with the high table, mmmm! Just make sure that you like the color and that the cut is good if you go with the OEC. 🙂

If you want an antique style, I say the OEC!
