I don’t have a diamond, I have a moissanite. However I can say that from what I’ve read, if you’re looking for sparkle, cushions are not the most brilliant cut. That’s not to say they don’t still sparkle! But if your choice is between round and cushion and you’re looking for sparkle, round brilliant cuts are going to give the most sparkle, because of how they’re cut. 🙂 My moissy is a round brilliant and sparkles like mad, which I love!

I do really like the look of cushions too. Just figured I’d share my thoughts on sparkle! 🙂

You can’t go wrong with either one, but I’m more partial towards cushion!

When SO and I were looking, I was comparing the two cuts and I chose cushion because I LOVED the way it sparkles.  It’s like a disco ball.

Just FYI a 1.5 ct cushion is going to face up much smaller than a 1.5 ct round.  There will also be a relatively large price difference.  My 2.2 ct cushion faces up closer to the size of a 1.85-1.95 ct round.

I was sitting in the store comparing them side by side and thought the cushion sparkled more.  I also had a round brilliant from my first marriage.

im always shocked when people say that cushions don’t sparkle.

I prefer cushions but I think it all depends on what you want. Go to a jeweler and try on both if you can. See what you like on your hand.

I think round is actually more popular, but cushion is my favorite. There are variations in cut styles with the cushion, so sparkle is going to vary from stone to stone. Check out a few in person if you’re worried. Mine sparkles like crazy, definitely more than my princess cut does.

As PP mentioned, it will face up a little smaller than a round, but they also tend to be lower in price so you could probably size up a little if you felt you needed to. I feel like 1.5 ct is definitely substantial though.

I’ll throw a photo in for you in a bit.

It depends on your preference.  I just got engaged and received a Victor Canera antique cut cushion.  It is gorgeous, sparkles like crazy, I love it!  There are different styles of cushion cuts out there, compare with round brilliants and see what speaks to you.

tnt7 :  This is mine – it’s only .92 ct so the one they are ordering in for you is going to be substantially larger.

My only recommendation would be to maybe check out a jeweler who has a good selection of loose stones for you to compare. You might find that you like the more antique/chunky look, or the ‘crushed ice’ type of cut might be your jam, or you might decide modified brilliant is for you. It’s hard to know until you see them yourself.

Round in a 4-prong setting – depending how you look at it, it looks like it could be either shape. I couldn’t decide so went with that 😂
