http://www.lifestylefood.com.au/quickbites/royal-wedding-cake-replicated-in-48-hours
This is the original:

This is the replica:

Wow I can’t believe that they complete the cake in 24 hours whereas the original cake took an “extensive team five weeks to complete”!
Its also amazing that the estimated cost of the royal wedding cake is a whopping $80,000!!! That’s more than the cost of my 3-day wedding!!
The replica costs a more reasonable $8,000…but I could still never spend $8000 for cake….even though its gorgeous! Would you???
The pastry chef is amazingly talented – he’s previously made a 2.1 meter tall Barbie cake!

The replica can be seen at Baroque Bistro at The Rocks in Sydney. Check them out if you love good food and especially if you have a sweet tooth as they make the best macarons ever!!! I may be partial as its my sister’s fiance’s family restaurant and lucky duck will probably have Jean-Michel (the above talented patisserie chef) as her cake chef… at least I get to eat the cake haha!
And just a side question while we’re on the topic of wedding cakes, how much did your cake cost? How many tiers, what were the flavor/s and icing, plus any other details about your cake, and please post a picture of your cake or the cake that inspired your cake.
I’ll start with my next post!

Wow, I had a hard time coping with our $600 price tag. $8k?! $80k?!?! That’s bananas!
Ours is 3 tiers of alternating chocolate and vanilla cake with canoli filling and chocolate buttercream frosting. Our cake also have over 100 hand made and painted fondant leaves as well as ribbon detailing around the case of each tier.
It will be just like this except 3 tiers and buttercream frosting instead of fondant…

Ok so here’s my wedding cake. It was a 3-tiers and cost $350, plus $100 for the cake decor. We had the Hilton’s in-house pastry chef make the cake as I didn’t want to deal with the head ache of transporting the cake.
Made with buttercream frosting with alternating layers of white cake and chocolate cake with raspberry belgian mousse and fresh strawberries. My husband and I liked the same toppings but I preferred white cake whereas he liked chocolate and since most people like either-or, so we chose both!
Decorated with 4-tier rhinestone banding purchased from Etsy, silver floral applique from local fabric store and personalized cake topper from wowminime.com.
sted on having a cake to cut!

CaitMarae your cake sounds delicious!!! Good call to go with buttercream – it tastes so much better than fondant, though there are so many design options for fondant cakes that aren’t available in buttercream.

I can’t believe the royal wedding cake was that much! Honestly, when I saw it I was like “Meh”. It’s pretty but not THAT great!
I haven’t gotten married yet but I don’t want to spend too much on a cake if I can help it.

I just went to our cake tasting tonight, it’s a lady whom does it out of her home and recommended by many for not only the cake but the price. I’m getting a four tier cake for 250 people for $275!! You can’t beat that!!
It isn’t the BEST cake I’ve ever had but still very good. You can have each tier a different flavor for no extra charge. Buttercream only which is fine with me. The only complaint I can make is that she doesn’t do fancy stuff like flowers, etc.. out of frosting. Mine will be scroll work on two tiers and swiss dots on the other two with my color ribbon around them. I’m not getting the exact look I wanted but considered other places wanted $1400-$2400 I’m okay with it.
There is no way I would ever consider paying thousands of dollars for a cake that nobody will even remember. Everyone has their own priorities, this one just wasn’t mine.

A friend of the family is charging us $200 to make our cake for a little over 200 guests! It will look similar to this but different colors and will have fresh flowers on it too. It’s 4 tiers, each with a layer of chocolate and a layer of vanilla cake with chocolate mousse filling and buttercream frosting.

I’m not sure what ours cost. A 3 tier cake w/ no filling and a nominal amount of basic frosting flowers was included in our catering package. We needed to pay $300 more for custom decorations and fruit filling.

Our will look like this but squared. First layer is fake. Second layer is vanilla rasberry. Third is red velvet. Fourth is Coffee Crisp. Yummy! Cost is $450

$325 (I think!) for 110 people, its a really pretty cake too.. Who would spent over a thousand on a cake? Its just a cake!

I don’t even like cake. The idea of spending more than $200 on a cake is completely ridiculous to me.
