You could put your invitation suite (I’m thinking luxe white paper, printed with red) inside a translucent gold vellum pocket enclosure with a line drawing of the castle printed on it in a slightly deeper gold, and then finish the pocket off with a laser-cut shimmery black belly band in the shape of castle gates, tied in the centre with a red (satin or maybe embroidered) ribbon. Alternatively, you could have a tassel or a wax seal in the centre. (For a sample of a laser-cut belly band and wrap, check out this beautiful suite from Ceci New York.)

For added effect, you could also cut the invitation out in a unique shape and then matte it onto another layer of cardstock. (Sort of like what Mrs Cupcake did for her gorgeous invites!)

You’d have layers and a very pretty, lush effect, but you would save on the postage that you’d spend for boxed invites. (Red or black envelopes with gold calligraphy would be stunning, or for a lower cost, you could use a wrap-around label and stamp/gocco it and the envelope with gold.)

The primary cost would be the laser-cut band – you could probably find someone on Etsy who does laser cutting or who has a Cricut Expression to do the cutting for you. You can do all the printing at home if you have a good colour printer that works well with vellum – a pocket for a 5″x7″ invite could be made out of a standard 8.5″x11″ piece of paper.
