What the heck?! That’s crazy! What does the name matter anyway as long as they are addressed properly. I’m glad they showed up eventually though!

we did only our first names on both the envelope and the RSVPs. So far we’ve received all of them back. Sorry that happened to you – must be so frustrating.

The thing about post offices is what they will do seems HIGHLY based on which postal worker gets your mail. For instance, I’ve heard of some girls on here saying their post office wouldn’t hand cancel their invitations due to “being busy” or something, but mine did it with no problems. Others said if their invitations were hand canceled, they were still run through machines- and mine weren’t. And our postcard RSVPs were addressed to our first names as well and we never had a problem- but you might have gotten some postal worker at your local office who looked and said “I won’t deliver that without last names.” It seems pretty much at the whim of the postal workers sometimes what happens to the mail!

Ya that seems silly.  It doesn’t matter if you put King Kong as the return address name, or none at all for that matter.  Weird! Glad it sounds like you’ve got it under control though

Strange because I’ve sent plenty of letters with just the name “Grammy” for example, no last name

WOW! Good to know.  I agree with the weirdness of using your future last name before its time….so i was planning on doing the same thing.  That’s annoying, but thanks so much for the heads up.

@MapleMoose: I was going to say the same thing!  I’ve sent lots of things to Grandma and Grandpa with no last name – or first names for that matter!

What a frustrating issue to have!  I hope they all start coming back to you now.

hmmmm our return addresses had only our first names… we got them all… how odd… id be pretty upset. youd think as long as you have the address that theyd send it there.

It all depends on the post office. The usps site states:

“An address must include a first and last name of recipient for guaranteed accurate delivery.”

We used “The HisLastName Wedding” for our return and only had one not get back to us.

This makes me nervous…. just YESTERDAY I received my custom return address stamp from Etsy and I had it made with only our first names (since I don’t have his last name yet) and then our address. I really really hope this doesn’t happen to me!

@MapleMoose: Exactly! I never write letters to my mothers name, always “Mommy” and yet they always seem to make it.

I agree with ohheavenlyday it does seem to depend quite a bit on the location and postal worker. With all my mailing experiences (including the STDs) I have had more trouble with the Riverside County area in Southern California, while another letter got through in San Diego even with my numbers transposed on the apartment number.

Yeah that seems really strange. How does that account for the mail I get addressed to “occupant”? Somebody was probably just lazy.
