My Fiance and I met at our school, where our mascot is a purple duck. We were at the school where he now works and I still attend as a student (he was a student when we met.) We were joking around with some of the instructors about having a bride and groom purple duck cake topper…later on Fiance brings it up, and he really wants one now!
I told him probably not, but I really would like to do it to surprise him! I’m looking into getting his grooms cake in our school colors, and making a bride and groom ducky cake topper for it. Our school hands out little purple rubber ducks the first week of school every year so I’ve collected a few I could use that would be the perfect size!
What do you think, bees? I figured a little top hat for the groom ducky and a veil for the bride ducky should do it!

I think its a great idea!! As long as he wouldn’t be embarassed to have them on a groom’s cake, I say go for it!

That sounds super cute!! I love cake toppers that have personality!! Plus, it seems to have a cute back story. 😉 I’d just make sure that the “formality” of the cake sort of matches the “formality” of the topper (if that makes any sense!). Ooh…or you could do a second groom’s cake as another idea to incorporate the ducks!! Either way, it is your wedding and I think it’d make a cute surprise!!! 🙂 ETA: Duh mrs_pugetsound…you were already talking about putting this on a groom’s cake! My oops!!!

I know Michaels has rubber duck bride and groom figures. I don’t know where you could get a purple one though, maybe paint them?

I really want to use the actual ones our school gives out, because they have the logo on them! Plus, they are really well known through our guest list, so many guests will be in on the joke of the purple ducks!
I can’t seem to find a top hat the right size, I’m thinking I’ll have to make one from felt?

I think this is a wonderful idea and a great way to surprise the man. Go for it!

Maybe you can buy the groom ducky at Michaels and cut his top hat off? (oh noes, ducky surgery!) Also, I think it would be cute to put a little necklace on the ducky bride, in addition to the veil – you could use stick on pearls or rhinestones.

@toshella: I love the idea of giving the bride ducky a little necklace! Hobby lobby has some stick-on pearls that would be great for that.

What a great personal touch. We went to our local bakery for brekky – they also do wedding cakes & they had the bride & groom ducks in the display cabinet. They’re very cute
