SabL22 :  Wow! That color! You should get it tested. I would love to know what it is.

jacksspade :  Awww, thanks! I am slowly gathering ideas, but it will be a bit before I can attempt a setting for it. Until then, I have it sitting out on my desk in its little protective box so that I can look at it all the time. I am totally smitten with it –ha, ha!

stevie54 :  Wow! Gorgeous and unique setting. And your center stone is stunning. It reminds me of fireworks!

SabL22 :  *GASP* That stone! What a beauty!!

jacksspade :   longtimemrs :  thanks you guys! I would love to know what it is too lol I’ve taken it to two jewelers already in the past and they either couldn’t tell me or their tester was broken supposedly… all I do know about it is that it’s my moms old engagement ring, allegedly came from somewhere in Asia, possibly Vietnam or Thailand in the 70s. My guess it’s a synthetic color change stone, either alexandrite or spinel or sapphire

the real kicker is; it had hallmarks on the inside of the band and I got it sized and they wiped them and am still miffed at myself for not taking pics before hand cause that would have helped probably in identifying atleast the origin of make.

It mainly looks reddish purple most of the time but in that pic I got it with multiple colors, included another pic of the other colors I managed to capture in different light..one day I’ll have to find another place to test it again haha

SabL22 Gorgeous! It looks a lot like a Tanzanite or Blue/Purple Zircon

longtimemrs :  Yes I have it! We did it kind of backwards and had the engagement before the ring (very spontenous engagement, was at a friend’s wedding, got the bouquet thrown into my face…then we thought, hmm, we’re at a great venue, we’re well dressed, why not…)
