Actually, while doctors are well-paid, med students are not, and most leave school with upwards of $100k in student loan debt. Depending on the specialty, malpractice insurance can be half your salary. Doctor does not always equal rich.

Some people!! That is really rude.
I’ll admit that once in awhile, I wonder how people in my cohort can afford certain things (buying a home, going on fancy vacations, whatever), but I would NEVER EVER EVER ask, nor would I ever just assume that they’re going into debt. That is really presumptuous.

@the_future_mrs: Thank you! I have nothing better to do either…I took a break from The Bee to give my dog a bath.

@lucyv2003: I never want to upgrade my ring…I want the same ring for my entire life. In my opinion, your e-ring should always be a reminder of your “beginning. ~ This exactly!
I had some heated discussions with friends (and jewelers) concerning the fact that I never want to upgrade my ring. All I can say is everyone is entitled to their opinion, but sometimes they should hush and keep it to themselves.

Your “friends” are jerks. Their comments are obviously sparked by jealousy. You wanted a nice ring. There’s nothing wrong with that. I’m also like that. I’ve loved gems and jewellery since I was a little girl and they make me happy. My Fiance has a love for expensive soccer boots and other sports equipment. That makes him happy. People have different priorities, and if you are financially smart and don’t go into debt what is the problem? Besides, your financial situation is none of their business and I’m appalled that anyone would be tacky enough to bring that up with you.

I’d love to say that girls are just catty, but I’ve received tons of rude comments from my male co workers as well. It’s just unfortunate that people are plain RUDE. Don’t let them bother you. As long as you and your Fiance are comfortable with your ring then that’s all that matters.

Ooooh, that would irk me too! People have no business assuming or asking questions like that! Brush it off, girl, your ring, your life, your choice!

It’s jealousy. Your ring is beautiful. Don’t worry what anyone else has to say. We received quite a handful of rude comments. All from women. And they all should know better!
Just ignore them. People have told me that they never would have wanted a ring like mine, and it’s so irresponsible to spend money on a diamond…
I just think “I don’t care what you think” and smile^^

Sheesh, stuff like that’s none of their business. They don’t have your Balance sheet in front of them, they have no idea what your exact money situation is. Some people are just rude and tactless, and really enjoy judging people because it makes them feel superior. It’s not a reflection on you. How does this stuff come up, anyways? I can’t imagine asking a friend how her Fiance can afford her ring.

You’re ring is beautiful. And even if one day you did decide to upgrade, what business is it of anyones but you and your FI’s? I would just say sorry, that’s between me and my significant other.
Congrats, the ring is gorgeous!
