So, due to some major sticker shock at the cost of renting table linens through my caterer, I’ve resorted to either buying or making my own linens. Of course this opens a can of worms. How many do I rent? What do I rent? Do I rent the table pad, also? Is there some ‘rule-of-thumb’ about buying an extra 2 tablecloths? Double? These are the details no one ever tells you about! Any help would be appreciated!

I was going to buy my linens, and re-sell them after the wedding. I found ebay to be the most price competetive for what I wanted. Ultimately, after some umm-ing and ahh-ing, my Mum put me in touch with a colleague of hers who owns a party hire business. Her prices were slightly cheaper than buying, but she cleans, irons etc and we decided to book her. We’ve booked an extra cloth or two, to be on the safe side, and rounded up for the linen napkins.
You could always rent the base cloth and buy the runners/overlays?

Check http://www.linentablecloth.com they have good prices and nice sales. I ended up buying my table clothes, runners, and napkins because they were cheaper than renting. I figure I can probably sell them after if I want to. I did buy extras just In case I bought 4 extra tableclothers and runners, and a pack (12) extra napkins just in case.
