I am having a mid October wedding (2013) but personally do not really like the autumn palette too much (orange, yellow, brown). I do like yellow but would prefer to have it paired with lavender.
I am just curious as to how ‘taboo’ it is to have a totally non autumn colour palette for my wedding even if it will be in October (e.g. if I go with a colour scheme like mint green, lavender, yellow, would it be considered bad taste since it is spring/Easter ish colours?)

I think yellow and lavendar would be lovely!

Thanks for your input. Ok, perhaps I will ignore these “season” rules and just choose colours that I want! 🙂

Rules (especially wedding rules!) are meant to be broken! I think lavender and yellow would be pretty! Or if you really want it to be a little more “wintery” perhaps go with a darker purple and gold! Those colors are a little more “rich” for chillier weather. But like I said, the lavender and yellow would be pretty too! Who cares about the season. 🙂
We had our wedding last week and just went with a neutral ivory, brown, and apple green color scheme. Not necessarily “winter/fall” colors but our personal style is pretty clean, simple, and “fresh” so it was perfect for us.

I completely ignored seasonal “rules” when choosing color. I had a summer wedding with winter colors. I say go for the colors you like and forget the rules.

don’t let rules tamper you creativity! ^-^

@6598731ssfse3: wow, was that photo from your wedding??? Stunningly beautiful!!
Thanks bees for the reassurance, I will let my colour preferences trump the season 🙂

The only “rules” I would suggest following is the color theory rules, with complementary colors (Yellow and purple/lavender compliment each other, so you’re good there.)

Choose whatever colors you want.

As an October bride myself, my color scheme is going to be deep purple (plum), gold and ivory. So they aren’t exactly fall.

I’m a strong believer that any colour can work in any season.

I’m getting married in the winter, and my wedding colors are black and plum with accents of silver. Not exactly winter colors but I didn’t care. I wanted those colors. 🙂

I think its less the colors and more how they are used in the wedding tha matters.
If you have long dresses and vs short summer Bridesmaid or Best Man dresses it will start to pull together. Maybe add touches of rich jewel tones to bring it into he season.
