I started running 3 – 4 x /week alternating days with lifting as part of a fitness regimen back in January. So far so great! However, my shoe size seems to have gone from an 8WW to a 7WW. I read that as your feet get stronger, your arches can get higher and actually shrink your shoe size in terms of length but possibly make your feet even wider in width. The weird thing is that my arches were always very high and my feet were always very wide to begin with. I didn’t think this change would happen to me. Has it happened to anyone else?

@pfinarffle: Haha, maybe it has and I never realized until I read this! I was always between a 9 and 9 1/2 shoe size, and would have to try on both to see which one fit better on a particular shoe. But now that I’ve become a serious runner, I just always get the 9 and it always fits. I never thought anything of it, but maybe you’re onto something!
Then again, I was a ballerina all through grade school, so my feet were probably MUCH stronger then than they are now. So maybe it’s just coincidence …

Wow wierd!!! I used to wear a bigger size shoe but never thought to look into why it changed.

I actually went up a half size. Weird.

I still have just as big feet as I did pre-running insanity hitting, lol. 🙂

hmm interesting, I’m just getting into running. I did notice that when I lost like 20lbs my shoes fit better… and I never thought I had ‘fat feet’ before lol.
