Hi bees! If you are a regular runner/jogger do you bring your phone with you when you go? If so, where do you keep it? I usually leave mine at home because I’m not a serious runner I just like to get out and jog around my neighborhood a few times a week. But I want to start tracking my miles/time because I’m training for my first 5k and I’m thinking there are probably apps that do that. I’ve seen some runners just holding their phone in their hands while they run and that makes me nervous. So what do you guys use? Also, any advice on apps or any advice related to training in general?! Thanks!

dogmamateacherbee : I don’t really run outside anymore because I’ve switched to HIIT classes, but when I used to run I’d just use an arm band to hold my phone. I would not trust myself to hold it in my hands although I see people who do that quite often.
I’ve seen some cool fanny pack type bags as well, but Ive never used one so not sure how comfortable they are.
In addition to being able to listen to music, tracking miles/calories, etc it’s probably a good idea to have a phone while you’re out running for safety reasons. But, I also live in a big city so that might not really apply to you, but somethign to think about if you start going on longer runs.

dogmamateacherbee : I used to have one of those arm band things, which worked fine, but kind of annoyed me. Then I got an Apple Watch, so I don’t bring my phone with me at all. I can still track distances (I just use the Apple Workouts feature) and listen to podcasts/music. It’s much easier and more comfortable!

I use an arm band that came with my Bluetooth headphones. It’s okay, not my favorite but it’s better than holding my phone. I also can’t access my phone without taking it out of the arm band, which can be a pain.
I’ve also tried one of those waist pouches but it was too big and bounced around too much for my liking.

I use a Garmin watch to track distance. If I bring my phone, I put it in my pockets.

dogmamateacherbee : I have an arm band that I use, but lately I’ve been seeing leggings with sweet pockets in them- so maybe that’s an option. Or, if you have a smart watch (I have an Apple watch) some of them have cell service on them so you won’t need to bring your phone. Mine is WiFi only so that’s why I use the arm band. The app I use to track miles is MapMyFitness by UnderArmour. I pay for the premium one and it gives you all sorts of cool data. Since I use the watch, it tracks my heart rate, and it’s actually pretty accurate on the mileage since your phone has GPS on it. It works better outside than when I’m on the treadmil but my Y uses Precor machines and they are incredibly accurate, so you’re able to update the mileage on the app if needed.

dogmamateacherbee : I alternate between using an armband and my runningbuddy, which is a magnetic clip phone and key holder that literally doesn’t budge when I run!

I wear a sports bra with a pocket in the back. I can control my music from my Apple Watch so I have no need to access my phone during my long runs! I used to wear an arm strap but I absolutely hated it as it was always sliding around. This is much more comfortable 🙂

I also, have an apple watch. I switched from garmin years ago. I still carry my phone sometimes. If I do, I use the armband. I feel like I don’t see many people using the armband anymore, but I still like it. Mine is washable. I also have a couple waistbands (can’t remember the names) but one is like a fannypack that I wear on days that I need to carry more like keys, food or ID , but it can be annoying and ride up.

I prefer to run with just my Apple Watch. If I want to bring my phone along, I use a Koala Clip. It attaches to the back of your sports bra.

I don’t know how you all do it, but I’m ENTIRELY too sweaty to keep my phone in a pocket when I run.
I leave my phone in my car and use my Garmin.
Also, I lace my key fob into my tennis shoes.

Legging with pockets are human’s greatest invention! I have a few pairs and love being able to just stick my phone in the pocket.
I also have an arm band it can go in, though mine is shit and doesn’t work super well so I hate using it.
I’m planning on getting a running waist pack like PP mentioned as I’ve heard good things.
I try to avoid just holding it in my hands because I’m very clumsy and sweat a lot when I run which means I’m probably going to drop it.
