Running 3-4 miles, you can totally do it. In 2011, I started running with the goal of running a 1/2 marathon in about six months. It was pretty easy to train for, unfortunately the only thing that kept me from reaching my goal was the terrible shin splints I got from running too hard down the Capitol building hill in DC. I didn’t get the chance to do another 1/2 because I moved right after the splints healed (to somewhere where its not safe to walk outside, let alone run). But it’s definitely still something I intend to do once leaving here!

I say “go for it!” And you’re right, it sounds like a great opportunity to bond with you FILs!

You can definitely do it. Novemeber is a long way away and you already have a good base. I think Hal Higdon recommends that you’re used to running 3-4 miles 3-4 times a week. Higdon’s plan is 12 weeks long.
