I went to ROTB in Chicago last summer.  Let me tell you that it’s a madhouse and it’s EXTREMELY hard to look for one particular dress.  The dresses are all in clear plastic and they aren’t notated with size or anything.  Heck, half the time you can’t even tell what the train situation is or anything until you get it out of the bag.  I started to guess based on weight.  I avoided the immediate stampede and listened to the advice I got on the website that said coming in a couple of hours later would save you a lot of hassle and there would still be tons of dresses.  It was true.  Two women i met here on WB came with me.  The only thing I’d do over would be to have one more girl and to make sure the girls knew ahead of time the types of things I was looking for.  (White vs Ivory/ Strapless vs everything else, etc…) It takes a lot to pull the dresses, change, stake out the spot and keep it, etc so I think having at least 3 people with you is really helpful.  It’s a war for mirror space inside the store.  Don’t forget some bottled water and granola bars or something.  It gets exhausting after a while and my entourage got really worn out.  A little food would have really helped them.

All in all, I found my dream dress in under 2 hours.  It was actually a dress I’d bookmarked as a favorite online and didn’t realize it until I got home! The fall 2010 season was out and the dress I bought was from Spring 2010 and in perfect condition.  I think all the dresses were one season behind so I wouldn’t expect to find a dress you have your heart set on that’s from the current season.  Also, one thing I didn’t know before going is that they had an alterations company on site who would help you clamp it if necessary and advise you on what was or wasn’t possible.  That really helped me make my final decision.

I wound up with a Mon Cheri Dress with a 1300 price tag still on it for 249 plus tax.

Good luck!!!

Yep. I will be there! I posted a board a few days ago but suprisingly no-one responded to it!

@posh_princess: Are you planning on camping out?

I have the style in mind… but not a particular dress or designer. Hoping to find the dress that day so it will not be a wasted effort.

I went to the Running of the Brides last summer with just my sister.  I had NO idea it was going to be so crazy! I knew that lots of people were going to be there, but not the craziness that ensued.  I did buy a dress at the ROTB last summer and now I am buying another dress that I’ve taken the time to choose and have it ordered brand new for myself.  I would say REALLY take your time and think about it before you buy something here. It is easy to get caught up and splurge and buy a dress.  It is fun, but then months later you realize your dress is not actually what you wanted at all and now you have to buy another and go through the trouble of selling it.  I would say…remember…you only get married once (hopefully), so make sure you feel as beautiful as you ever felt in your ROTB dress! Unfortunately for me, I realized I did not.
