I had almost the exact same thing happen to me! The ER kind of freaked out about mine b/c my pain was on the right side so they thought I may have had appendicitis. They gave me pain meds and I felt way better by the end of the day.

If yours is anything like mine was just trying to sleep it off should do the trick, maybe take tylenol PM instead of what they gave you? With that though you run the risk of actually needing a larger dose but not being able to take it.

They haven’t ruptured thank goodness, but I have a cyst on each ovary right now for about a month.  Not as painful as when I first noticed them, but I still get zings every so often a cramp feelings pretty frequently.

Sorry I don’t have any advice – just wanted to say hang in there, and I feel for ya!

@akirasan:  Fortunately they told me about their concerns after they gave me IV morphine, so I really didn’t give a hoot at that point. Wink

A heat pack would probably help, I curled up on the couch and zoned out watching TV for the whole day. It hurts a lot but hang in there! The worst of it is probably over!

Try to eat something when you take your meds, it will help to have something in your stomach.   I haven’t had one rupture but I had one in college that in 4 days went from the size of a peach to the size of a basketball. It hurt so much I passed out on drive back home from school (my b/f drove me).  I had emergency surgery and the darn thing was 5.5lbs(bigger than me when I was born).

I’m suprised the pill didn’t keep the cysts in check, I’ve been on the pill forever, simply to keep the cysts from developing.  As soon as I go off the pill I can feel them, altho never ever like that huge one.

@HisIrishPrincess:  I’ve been on the pill for 8 years with no issues – now I have 2 cysts at the same time and I can feel both.  One got pretty big and REALLY painful and has gotten smaller but not gone away, the other is fairly small but I feel occasionally.  I mean honestly… WTF! Grrrrr

I quit BC two years ago and since then my periods have been all over the place ranging from 28-72 days apart and 4-14 days long. I have seen several different midwives and a reproductive endorcrinologist. I am borderline PCOS so I have cysts which rupure about every other month. My extreme pain usually starts between 4-7am, followed by hot flashes, extreme nausea, feeling of passing out. I have Fiance start a bath, take 6 ibprophens and when I can manage to get off the bathroom floor will drink a cup of tea. I have always dealt with the pain alone without seeking medical help. It is the worst but there is no way I can move to go to the ER (other than from the bathroom floor to the tub) once my cyst has ruptured. The bath helps along with lots of tylenol. I have been to several acupunturists and am currently seeing a naturopath. I have been told the only thing that will help is going back on birth control. Hopefully the naturopath can help me figure out a more natural approach so I do not have to take any pain meds and go back on BC.

Ive had a few rupture and it hurt like mad. moist heat and food with painkillers and it still felt bad. I lost a lot of blood with one of them, so I was worn out. very frustrating. It gets better with rest and time. i hope you feel better!

Oh I’m so sorry! That happened to me years ago and it was the worst pain of my life. I actually went to the hospital in an ambulance because I thought it was my appendix.

Unfortunately, I have no good advice. I got through it by taking the pain meds the doctor gave me and sleeping as much as I could. It’s good that you’re off work-I was in college at the time and for a few days afterwards I could barely get through an hour long class without throwing up. Work would’ve been hell.
