Ugh!!! I have 2 other posts on this. It’s (again) about my dress size. This has seriously been bothering me since I purchased my dress. I can’t do anything to change it now, but I went back to the store today to ask about the sizing hoping to ease my mind a little. It was a different lady this time and she took my measurements and had me try on an 8 zip up sample (when I had gone originally they told me they didn’t have any size 8’s with zippers.) Well I try on the 8 and its too big so she has me try on a 6. It fits, but is a little snug at the hip. She looks at me and says, “I think you could have gone with the 6, but the 8 will be easily altered.” HOLD UP! HOLD UP!!! The original lady had me order a 10!!! A TEN PEOPLE!!!! I KNEW I should have gone with the 8, I knew it!!! The 12 sample dress had been HUGE! She used like 6 clamps to keep the dress on me, ordering only one size down should have been a red flag for me. Ugh, I am sooo upset now. Would the other lady really have purposely sold me a dress that was going to be way too big? They have a list of recommended alterations people so I don’t think they actually make money off of that but I don’t know any other reason. I’m just so confused and now I have to wait 6+ months to see how bad its going look. And Im really hoping the alterations people can make the size 10 dress closer to a size 6. And on top of all this I’m losing weight!! I should be happy about that and a big part of me thinks I should just stop dieting so that I don’t mess up my dress! 🙁

I’m so sorry about that. Are you sure that your weight hasn’t changed since then? I’m sure they can alter down 2 sizes and if it’s an off site alterations place, they probably don’t make anything on the amount of alterations you get. I hope you figure it out!

This is not a great situation to be in! Here are the GREAT news though! It is easy to take a dress in, taking out is a bit hard and in some cases impossible.
I am in the same boat as you are, but my dress is a corset back, so it is easy to go up or down.
I have a friend that originally bough a size 14 zip up wedding dress, it was about a year before her wedding. Long story short, she had to take it in to size 4!!!! The seamstress did a wonderful job – it looked like it came in size 4. Please do not worry, i think it will work out and it is going to be perfect!

my weight hasn’t changed too much, maybe down a pound? I just bought the dress like last week.
Mashka, that’s great too hear! And the style wasn’t effected too much? I have lace and crystals and pearls at the top part where I assume they take in the dress, would that matter?

Definitely do your research on seamstresses, and go with somebody who comes highly recommended. A good seamstress should have no trouble taking your dress in a couple of sizes, even with lace and beading. (What is your street size?)
My dress was also ordered in a 10, which I was worried about, and it definitely was too big…the seamstress at the bridal shop didn’t do a great job of taking it in and I lost more weight after I picked up my dress. I found a good seamstress in this area who did an incredible job with it – it seriously looks like it was made for me. So don’t despair…you might have to spend a little more on alterations, but you should be fine! Like an earlier poster mentioned – its better for it to be too big than too small, so that is probably why they had you order the 10.

@june42011 – good that u asked that question, because my dress is the same way, has all the beading on the top part. I asked, the lady at the store and she told me that they take it in at the seems and it should not matter it is going to look good.

Ok good. I’ll have to start researching some places! I’m between a 4/6 but since I’ve been losing weight I’m noticing most of my size 6 pants are getting to the too big to wear stage!
