@jessyrez:  I have an all sapphire engagement ring. I put it in a bowl filled with 2/3s water and 1/3s dishwashing detergent, then let it soak for 15 min or so.  It works pretty well.

My jeweler told me anything red white or blue (diamond, ruby and sapphire) can be cleaned with just about any normal cleaning practices. I personally use half mix of windex and rubbing alcohol in my little conissures sonic cleaner. I try not to use water because it’s so hard here it leaves spots.

But by far, steam cleaning is the way to go with harder stones. I use the steamer arm on my cappachino machine to do that. Works wonderfully.
