My doors lock automatically once the car is in drive, but if I get in and just sit there in the parking lot or something I will lock my doors because there are just too many creepy people that could be watching and waiting.

Dang, I wish I had doors that locked automatically. It’s a pain having to lock all four doors every time I get in and out of the car. But I do it every time. I live around a rough neighborhood and I don’t want to end up in trouble one day!

@ForeverBirds:  I’ve seen this on Facebook too. I think the tips are good as well but I also think it’s slightly misinformative because it ignores one huge aspect of rape: many women are raped by someone they already know. They aren’t afraid to be alone with this man or go places with him because they know and trust him, so he can easily get them alone and out of earshot of anyone else before he attacks them. Fighting is still an option, yes, but it’s hard to prevent an abduction when you don’t even realize that it’s happening.

@ForeverBirds: Yep, that’s the tough part. First we tell women they have to fear strangers, and now they need to be wary of potentially EVERY MAN they know? It’s overwhelming. I guess we just have to find the balance between living in an unreasonable state of fear and living a life that’s a little too risky. And the article does that pretty well, al things considered.
